WINTREK (Star Trek for WINDOWS) February 1993
Uploaded 9/7/92
wintrk1.txt
Ah, Windows and Star Trek; what a combination! WINTREK is a
battle game in which the Enterprise takes on aliens who appear in Federation
star space. WINTREK loads with a plethora of screens available to the Captain
via the Master Control Panel. The action is viewed on the Short Range Screen
and a Message Screen provides an ongoing log of the unfolding scenario. The
battle is conducted using Navigation to position the Enterprise, which then
fires phasers or photon torpedoes. Travel is at either Impulse Power or Warp
Speed and Shields may be activated at varying strengths at the discretion of
the Captain. Dilithium, which provides the power for all major Enterprise
functions, is constantly monitored and must be carefully conserved. The Star
Fleet license fee of $20, which brings with it a complete captain's manual,
may be deposited with Jospeh Jaworksi, 18627 Brookhurst St., Suite 42,
Fountain Valley, CA 92708, Earth, United Federation of Planets.

WTIME (WINDOWS) February 1993
Uploaded 10/25/92
wtime1.txt
WTIME is a modem utility for Windows 3.1 that will connect you to the
atomic clock at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It
does not require Terminal or any other commuications because WTIME is
a 'dedicated' mini-communications program for this one purpose. Modem setup
is a breeze, the default string will work for Hayes compatible modems.
WTIME operates only at 1200 bps because that is the fastest speed now
supported by the NIST! WTIME displays a conventional Window within which
messages appear to report the progress of a call; the entire process takes
about a minute. Three options exist for hanging up when a call is in
progress. I think WTIME is terrific! WTIME is freeware and is the work of
John Deurbrouck who published it in the Oct.27, 1992 issue of PC Magazine.

FEDERATION CONTROL PROGRAM MANAGER (WINDOWS) February 1993
Uploaded 12/3/92
fpm1.txt
FEDERATION CONTROL PROGRAM MANAGER, a most attractive program
launcher for Windows, will bring a smile to the lips of any Trekkie. Exe.
.com, .bat and .pif files may be selected from a very attractive drop down
directory tree, given titles and then added to a launch menu. Clicking on
an 'Energize' button will launch the selected program. There is one level of
undelete and the usual option to run minimized. Aside from the obvious
increased efficiency for the user, the great fun here is in the design of the
interface. No manual or help file in the usual sense is provided with the
shareware version but any Star Fleet Officer will be up and running in a few
moments with FEDERATION CONTROL PROGRAM MANAGER. Registration will bring
the latest version and is $15 from Anthony Targonski, 106 Fifth St.,
Cambridge, MA 02141.

4print1.txt
Save paper and save trees with 4PRINT! This is a marvelous DOS
utility, which can be extensively customized, for printing multiple pages of
ASCII text on a single page using either a Laser or Deskject printer. All
printing is done in landscape mode. If your eyesight can handle the tiny font
sizes, up to four pages of text can be printed per page as four vertical
columns with line borders. The default setting, which requires no knowledge
of the many command line switches, prints two pages per landscape page, back
to back. It is extremely easy to print a single column per page (very
useful for huge spreadsheets) or force single sided printing. Lines can be
numbered and three variations of wordwrap are available. And much, much more!

fract1.txt
FRACTINT is a state of the art, super fast, fractal generator. The
beauty of its output is breathtaking and that alone justifies its inclusion
in SR. It comes with more than two dozen fractal files and many map files
which can be superimposed over fractal images to generate landscapes and
planets. An extensive list of 'drawing' parameters can be altered through
an approach which bypasses the underlying mathematics. Fractals may be
cycled and newly created images saved in .gif format. Most impressive is
how well the program works on a VGA monitor with standard 16 color palette.
Aside from the aesthetic fascination, FRACTINT can be used as an education
tool to explore the mathematics behind the graphs of nonlinear dynamic
functions. FRACTINT for Windows has just been released as freeware and
includes a 100 page manual embedded as a help file. Registration for the
DOS version will bring a comprehensive book and is $34.95 from the Waite
Group, 100 Shoreline Drive, Suite A-285, Mill Valley, CA 94941.

SCHOOL MOM (DOS) February 1993
Uploaded 12/5/92
schmom1.txt
SCHOOL MOM is a suite of learning programs whose modular content
encompasses kindergarten to eighth grade. Art, Music, Spelling, English,
and Math modules each contain several levels of difficulty. Art explores
freehand drawing and an intuitive approach to animation. Spelling and
English tackle basic language with an approach that is engaging and humorous
while still emphasizing learning. Math delves into the basics of arithmetic
and beginning algebra and perceptively places the educational searchlight upon
revealing the steps that lead to a successful computation. Overall, the
educational pyschology behing the design of SCHOOL MOM is noncompetitive;
incorrect responses do not subtract from the overall score which accumulates
during each learning session. The colorful interface is attractive, the
keyboard and mouse operations should be quickly learned. Registration is $25
from Motes Educational Software, PO Box 575, Siloam Springs, AR 72761.
